I did another woman – this time I painted a Muslim woman with her hijab on. The sketch was simple but the overall concept was tricky because her face needs to be the focal point. I painted the hijab red and then my son came in and destroyed it and it smeared the red onto other portraits I had started painting. I was so upset but I said I’m not throwing her away I will pretend like it’s not there. In the end, I like how I learned to blend flesh tones over red. Then I added the black over the word American and it somehow came together, to me it’s the American Flag blowing in front and behind her. Then for the gold details in her hijab, I added a simple gold v pattern to the folds of the fabric.
