I had sketched my lovely Ophelia in the beginning, but I was nervous to paint dark skin tones. I went on youtube and relearned how to mix tones properly and with feeling. I was singing a song about your ancestors and how your name means more than just a name. I was singing it for my great grandmother who without knowing carved a place in history for me. I feel this portrait is different from the others not only in style but in the eyes.
